Patty Horner, LPC, RPT

Patricia Horner (Patty) comes to The Refocus Center from private and public sectors, bringing knowledge of both into her counseling.  Patty is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia, and is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Virginia Counselor's Association.  She is also a Registered Play Therapist and an Approved Clinical Supervisor for LPCs, and an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Trained Therapist.  Patty appreciates her work with individuals who have experienced trauma, as well as anxiety, depression, OCD, and loss.  


Patty began her career as an English and Special Education teacher, and still carries these credentials.  She earned her undergraduate degree in English and secondary education, as well as two Master's Degrees— one in Curriculum and Instruction and one in Community and College Counseling— from Longwood University.

She has worked in urban, suburban and rural settings with varying cultures and ages, and enjoys her work with children, adolescents, adults and families.  Her background includes work at schools, private agencies, detention centers, FAPTs, residential facilities, and a community services board.  She has worked in the human services field for over 20 years teaching, assessing, and counseling.

Patty works with clients to understand their current situations and concerns, as well as their goals for the future and aids them in reaching these goals.  Primarily, Patty works with individuals to establish function and harmony in their lives, and to aid in communication and building and strengthening relationships.
